Google to Dominate Entire Physical Universe?

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

As you may have heard, NASA and Google have just announced a partnership of sorts. While it seems like an information sharing agreement, a close reading reveals some rather startling things.

Google to Dominate Entire Physical Universe?

At its core, Google is a search engine. While this is obvious, people sometimes forget it given all the interesting gadgets Google Labs kicks out. Regardless of how you define it, Google typically has at least been restricted to being classified as no broader than an information technology company. It would appear Google has much bigger plans.

With more than a bit of hype, Google and NASA have announced they are teaming up. In reviewing the deal, most people are focusing on the data benefits Google will receive. Specifically, NASA appears to be giving Google access to its satellite imagery and even planetary exploration data. Pundits predict we will soon be able to roam Mars digitally on a Google platform, much as we can look at satellite images of our neighborhood now.

While all of this is great, it appears to be a red herring. The real meat of the agreement is found in a few lines that can only be described as utterly intriguing. NASA and Google have agreed to work on very advanced stuff ??” nanotechnology and information technology research. In short, we are talking about a wide range of products straight out of your favorite science fiction movie. Read broadly, this could include robots with artificial intelligence.

Now, you are probably wondering how serious Google could be about developing some very serious technological advances with NASA. In truth, nobody knows but a select few people at the company and agency. There is, however, once very tidbit of information being reported that will make you raise your eyebrows. NASA has granted Google the right to develop 1 MILLION square feet at one of its research centers. I don???t know about you, but that sounds like more than a whim.

So, what can we expect from this agreement? Will it result in simple virtual simulations of planets or something much, much more? There is no way to tell, but I will certainly be watching Google Labs a lot closer!

An Introduction To Puzzles

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Puzzles are problems intentionally designed to stimulate the brain into devising solutions. Puzzles can be differentiated from games as the latter are aimed primarily at entertainment, although games like chess, checkers, and solitaire are made up of many puzzles.

Puzzles are broadly categorized into riddles and word plays, logic and mathematical puzzles, and physical puzzles. Some of the popular riddles are conundrums, charades, crosswords, and anagrams. Paradoxes and magic squares are two of the popular mathematical puzzles, which include a wide array of puzzles including geometric puzzles, decision puzzles, number sequences, action sequences, analytical puzzles, and logic puzzles. Jigsaws, labyrinths, and mazes are some of the examples of physical and mechanical puzzles.

Puzzles have been ingrained into the human culture since the very beginning. One of the oldest and most popular puzzles is Tangram, which has been teasing minds all over the world for thousands of year. Humans have been known to devise oral puzzles since the advent of languages. Riddles have been integral part of ancient scriptures and religious literature, including the Koran, Bible, Sanskrit scriptures, and Greek mythology.

The development of arithmetic in Egypt resulted in birth of mathematical puzzles. The interest in mathematical puzzles grew from the fifth century to the fifteenth century. The popular mechanical puzzle labyrinth was incorporated in the floor designs of many churches in France and Italy in the twelfth century. Sam Loyd of the United States and Henry Dudeney from Britain are considered greatest puzzle inventors in their countries. The duo devised numerous puzzles in nineteenth century.

The extent to which puzzles have become part of daily life can be gauged from the popularity of crosswords, jigsaw puzzles, and Sudoku.

Cross-sell/Up-sell Strategy - No Risk Strategy To Squeeze More Money Out Of Your Customers!

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

If you had a no-risk way that is guaranteed to fatten your wallet, would you use it? Of course you would. I have a simple solution to do that, and I’m shocked that most internet marketers are not implementing this simple strategy. If you implement it, you’ll be ahead of most of the average internet marketers. Anyway, this is what you do:

Simply put an additional offer order form right before your customer completes their purchase.

This additional offer can be two things, a cross-sell and an up-sell. You can use a cross-sell by combining a related product to the original order. Or you can use the up-sell by giving your customers an ‘upgraded or premium version’ of your product.

Here is an example of a cross-sell:

“Yes! I want to gain Maximum Muscle In Minimal Time with the Maximum Muscle Protein Powder for $30 right now! Also include my 12-bar box of Maximum Muscle Protein Bars, the perfect food bar for the serious bodybuilder at the rock-bottom price of $19.97!”

(In this case, protein bars are related to original product, the protein powder.)

Here is an example of an up-sell:

“YES! I want to super size the soda and fries for only 50 cents more!”

(In this case, the bigger portion of the meal is the upgraded version of the original product.)

The reason you want to do this is because your customer already has his credit card in hand and are receptive to buy your original product. The cross-sell and up-sell technique works because it plays into your customer’s impulse buying habits.

Like I said before, there is absolutely no risk in having these offers. Your customers can either order your package deal or they don’t. But let’s say only 50% of your customers do order your additional offers; calculate how that can fatten you wallet. There is nothing to lose, and more money to gain! You will only win in this situation!

Just be creative when cross-selling your products. You can figure it out, just use your common sense! Here are a few examples to get you started:

Golf equipment - after they’ve purchased hundreds of dollars of equipment, would your prospects want to know how to improve their swing? Offer them an instructional DVD or a subscription to a golf magazine.

Insurance - after your prospect bought an auto insurance policy, offer them a vacation package at $100 off.

Information products - after your prospect bought your $597 product, offer them a limited time offer of purchasing the bonus CD set that usually sells for $397 at a one time only price of $97.

Just integrate these offers in your website ordering page with a checkbox. The beauty of offering these upsell/cross-sell goodies is that it takes a minute to implement, but doesn’t cost you any extra money to advertise and promote.

To sum up, the cross-sell/up-sell works well because people are in the ‘buying’ mode, and it takes less effort push them deeper in your extra ‘money-saving’ offers. If you want some extra money with very little effort, start using this strategy today!
